The Lady Wulfrun Fair Organ is a 49 keyless McCarthy fair organ that was built by Paul McCarthy, in Basingstoke, Hampshire in 1990.
Negotiations were in hand for it to be fitted into a fairground ride in Tasmania! However, this didn’t materialise and Joe Davies and his wife, Margaret were able to acquire the organ.
At it’s first outing, the organ was presented to “HRH The Princess of Wales” when it entertained the invited guests at the opening of the Police Headquarters in Wolverhampton in 1992.
During 1993 it appeared at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham and played throughout the week for the World premiere gala performance of the musical “Bertie”.
Since then the organ has appeared at hundreds of steam and vintage rallies across the Unitied Kingdom and on the continent! Being a regular attendee of well known rallies such; Shrewsbury Steam Rally, The Great Dorset Steam Fair plus many more! It has also entertained the crowds in town centres and parks at many local events.
The organ is now owned by Helen Matu (the late Joe Davies’ daughter) and is exhibited in his memory by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are now regular rally-goers and organ enthusiasts!
